Created in 1975, the Joint Committee is a coalition of major professional associations in the United States and Canada concerned with the quality of evaluation.
The Joint Committee has published three sets of standards for evaluations that are now widely recognized:
The Personnel Evaluation Standards (2nd Ed.)
The Program Evaluation Standards (3rd Ed.)
The Classroom Assessment Standards for PreK-12 Teachers
The Joint Committee is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Standards approved by ANSI become American National Standards. The standards issued by the Joint Committee are the only educational standards certified by ANSI.
The Joint Committee is incorporated as a public charity exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. In addition to setting standards in evaluation, it is also involved in reviewing and updating its published standards (every five years); training policymakers, evaluators, and educators in the use of the standards; and serving as a clearinghouse on evaluation standards literature.
